How to Sell a Product Online

How to Sell a Product OnlineHow to Sell a Product Online

Online retailing or eCommerce as it’s more commonly known, is a rewarding business. There are many people who are making substantial incomes by selling products and services online and many others making nothing at all.

Like any other type of business, you need to have a plan in order to get started. You can’t just jump in and hope things work out because many fail before they even get their first eCommerce site off the ground.

An Idea…

How to sell a Product OnlineBut what if you could build an eCommerce site that makes you say, $1,000 per month, (that’s $12,000 a year). I am sure you would say this would be an ok amount for a part time hobby and a pretty good idea.

What if you could build a number of them, an entire website, or a bunch of websites, and turn those into cash flowing assets that continue to pay you thousands of dollars a month for the next 4 to 7 years, or longer?

Why an eCommerce Business?

The internet is killing traditional retailing…

It’s no secret that the internet has radically changed how we shop. These days, you can buy almost anything online with a few clicks of a mouse. Because of this, less and less people go to malls and department stores. That’s obviously is bad news for retailers that depend on foot traffic.

Of course, online shopping didn’t just suddenly sneak up on traditional retailers. It’s been steadily building since the 1990s.

But here’s the thing…

Most traditional retailers have underestimated the power of the internet. They didn’t adapt to it. Now they’re paying the price. Just look at these examples of some of the major retail stock prices that have plummeted over the last three years.

  • Macy’s is down 45%
  • Sears is down 72%
  • J.C Penney is down 25%
  • The Gap is down 42%
  • Urban Outfitters is down 33%

Whereas, Amazon, the world’s biggest online retailer is up 130% since March 2014 and business online, globally is now in the billions of dollars annually.

Would you Like a Piece of this $400 Billion Market?

Estimates are, that during the year 2017 online retail sales will continue to grow to $434.20 Billion Dollars. If you doubt these numbers then take a look at these online retail growth stats:

The Online Shopping Trend

How to Sell a Product Online

As you can see, online shopping activity has increased nearly tenfold since 2000. And Amazon, now the world’s largest retailer, is a big reason why.

Important News About Amazon

Amazon’s has recently announced that its is increasing its focus on ecommerce growth and they exceeded more than $136 Billion in sales in 2016 alone and they are expecting sales to grow into over a half trillion dollars in the next decade. They are investing heavily in the infrastructure and marketing initiatives to keep customers coming back for their every need.

Why should you care?

Because you can participate in this unprecedented growth. A relatively large percentage of Amazon sellers are already generating life-changing money by leveraging the massive marketplace that is ‘Amazon‘, and they benefit from Amazon’s investments in creating happy customers and now so can you by getting involved via an eCommerce business.

Here’s How the eCommerce Business Works

You identify products you want to sell in your online store, (maybe from Amazon). Or you setup a drop ship arrangement and a discount (profit margin) with a supplier.

“Drop ship means that when someone orders, the supplier ships the item directly to your customer. When a sale is made you get the profit margin from the sale”.

You then setup an eCommerce website and promote your selected products by writing a product review or a blog about the specific product you are promoting. If you provide quality content and interesting information, you will build a following for your website and a list of satisfied customers.

Here is an example of how this works out:
Product Sells For $49.95 (Product Cost + Drop ship Fee) $25.35 = Profit of $24.60

Another Way

Of course, if you only want to just source and promote Amazon products you can build a blog site and write product reviews. That way anyone already looking to buy a product from Amazon (a hot Prospect) will read your review before making their final decision. The idea is not to try to sell the reader, but rather give them information that will help them with their decision to buy, or not.How to Sell a Product Online

Build a quality review site and helps enough people and you will soon become an authority on that particular product, attracting even more readers. The more readers you get, the more value Google will allocate to your blog and the higher your search engine ranking will become and the greater your chances are of making sales.

You see people are not searching online to buy things. They are usually searching online for information and if you can provide them with what they need and satisfy them with quality content and information they can trust, then you can build a following of readers who will accept your recommendations and suggestions.

However, building a quality Amazon product review site can be a difficult and time consuming task. That was until now. Now you can learn the insider secret to building quality Amazon product review sites that will draw in readers wanting that final push before buying the product they are interested in.

Introducing Amazon Product Reviewer

Check the demo video below:

This tool saves you an incredible amount of time.  You can now focus on managing sales, or writing reviews instead of wasting time on researching what products to promote or sell. It allows you to promote with confidence any Amazon product, eliminating the need for guess work and ensuring you only select the proven winners.

You can see my review of this product using the link below.

check out my review of Jungle Scout here

Bottom Line

The bottom line is that if you want a fun and simple way to make money from your computer, then Jungle Scout with either of the two products mentioned above, will be a great combination to do that.

The name of the game is focus on quality products and customer satisfaction. By promoting quality products that are first class, people will like them and will want to come back again for other purchases.

So, start with one website and focus on a particular product or niche and build as many pages and posts as you can around that. Later add other links to other affiliate products when you have traffic coming to your site (Remember you are not trying to sell them the first time they visit your site). Provide quality information and build trust and both people and Google will like you.

Done for you Sales Letters

Why You Need These

Why you need to seriously consider these products, is because traditional retailing is changing faster than you can imagine. It’s a perfect time to catch the next retail wave.

For example, Sears is one of America’s oldest companies, opening its first store in 1886, and the company later pioneered the mail-order catalog business. Helping it to become the world’s biggest retailer, at one point, but recently it has laid off thousands of workers and it plans to close 150 (10%) of its stores.

All because they underestimated the power of the internet. They are not alone, here’s a list of major companies planning to close stores;

  • J.C. Penney plans to close 120 (14%) stores in the coming months.
  • Macy’s plans to close 100 of its stores.
  • Payless – 1,000 stores
  • RadioShack – 552 stores
  • The Limited – 250 stores
  • Wet Seal – 171 stores
  • American Apparel – 110 stores
  • Abercrombie & Fitch – 60 stores
  • Guess – 60 stores

And that’s just scratching the surface of the decline of traditional retailing. According to Business Insider, retailers nationwide expect to close more than 3,500 stores in the coming months.

As if that’s not enough, three of the above companies, Payless, RadioShack, and American Apparel, have all filed for bankruptcy in the past year.

In short, online shopping is decimating traditional retailers. Creating a huge opportunity for creating your own eCommerce business.  It is easy to see why many experts are expecting online retail sales to grow by hundreds of Billions in 2018.

    Hi Peter,
Lots of information in this article. I was never sure what drop shipping was so thanks for clearing that up! I am in the process of building a website myself and these days it really has been made so much easier to do any type of website online. The hardest part is the marketing but if you are with a decent platform, then you definitely can be taught the right way. An e-commerce website looks interesting and something I definitely will consider in the future.
    Cheers, Sharon

    • Peter

Hello, Sharon Thank you for your comments and yes hopefully I have made it easier for you to understand this concept. These to programs will make everything so much simplier. 🙂

  • TheZaScholar

Wow, I’m glad I found your site. I actually just recently started looking into e-commerce and found your tips and suggestions very helpful.

I’m very interested in the WordPress help as it is something that has really held me back. I don’t want to pay someone else to do it for me as that leads to them controlling your site. Plus no one else is going to put as much time and thought into your site as you yourself.

What really blew me out of the water though was Jungle Scout. I’ve never heard of this before and it is EXACTLY the tool I’ve been looking for. Are there any other similar products out there or would you say this is in a class of it’s own?

I really appreciated your article, thanks!

    • Peter

Hello, TheZaScholar. Thank you for your comments I am pleased you found this useful.I am sure there are other products however I have only reviewed this one and found it ti be everything you need. Hope you enjoy using it. 🙂

I have read a lot about Dropshipping. I am currently using Affiliate Marketing as a earning method, but Dropshipping also intrigues me because you’re actually setting up your own business and if you’re good, you can probably earn more than you do with affiliate. This was a very helpful introduction. It explains the Dropshipping process very easily for people who have never heard of it before. It’s amazing how simple it is nowadays to build a website from scratch even if you don’t have many computer skills. Thanks for sharing.

    • Peter

Hello, Horatius You are right it is a lot simpler these days to build an eCommerce store than ever before. But still we should not forget that we still need to focus on quality products and customer satisfaction. By promoting quality products that are first class, people will like them and you will build a following of loyal customers who will want to come back again for other purchases. Thank you for your comments. 🙂

  • Eartha

    Hi Peter,

You’ve provided some great information here. I am always telling my family and friends how much easier it is today to have an online business than it was many years ago. In the past, you would need to hire a web developer/programmer to get a basic website up. Now with software and technology, anyone can have an e-commerce website up in a matter of minutes.

    • Peter

Hello, Eartha. You are quite right it is really easy now compared to the past. However the business, in fact any online business still takes time and effort to make work. You still need to get traffic and make sales. Also not hard but requires some knowledge and effort on your part. Thanks for the comments. 🙂

  • Jay

Thanks for the great information Peter this was very informative. My website is just getting off the ground and I was previously much less aware of commerce and how It can be made into a business.

I have been building up content for my website and have been emerged in the idea of building an online business for a while now. The sheer amount of text and visual lay out of this page did seem a bit daunting and If I were just being introduced to the idea of staring an online business I think I would be a bit sceptical.

I plan on using and continuing to learn from this lots in the future…cheers!

    • Peter

Hello, Jay thanks for your comments. Happy you are bookmaking my page. Yes, eCommerce is certainly a growing sector and the opportunity is enormous. I look forward to hearing about your success. 🙂

Your statistical measures of online retail growth on Alibaba, Ebay, and Amazon convinces me that it’s not too late to start an internet business. I’m looking forward to e commerce because I can create my own without factoring in the shipping or manufacturing costs. Your 10 part video course is affordable and something I think that would benefit my plan to setup a digital store. I wouldn’t mind learning about how to write sales letters.

    • Peter

Hello, chuw5. Thank you for your comments and you are in luck as I happen to also have a course on writing sales letters. Which you can find here at: salesman letters I sure you will find these most helpful. Thanks again for your comments. 🙂

  • Weston

I found this section to be more than informative and helpful co sidering I am thinking about an e-commerce site to sell my own product.

That is another question I have- can I sell my own products on my e-commerce site? And how do I do that?

    Thanks for the info!

    • Peter

Hello , Weston. To answer your question. Yes, of course and its the same process as selling someone else’s product except that it is yours. Of course you need to create the product and set up delivery, provide customer service and payment processing (something that affiliate products already have). But other than that. It’s no problem.

      Thanks for your comments. 🙂

  • Arooj

Hey Peter, I am already setting up an online store related to women fashion but I am facing so much problems in finding good plugins and SEO related services. Nowadays I was searching about the free plugin which can compare my reviewed products automatically. But still I could not find it as all compare plugins do not go with my WordPress version. Now I will find my solution in this book. May be it will help me out. Thanks for review.

    • Peter

Hello, Arooj. If you are selling Amazon products then Jungle Scout is a great software to help you review and compare various products and it will save you a ton of time. Thank you for your comments. :).

  • Pete

You have some good basic info there. Today it is so easy to set up a site with wordpress I’m surprise there are any real shops around? Throw in woocommerce and you have a ready made business. Just have to fill the virtual shelves? I’m looking at amazon for a golf orientated store. Is there anything better or faster than wordpress? I ask because too many plugins can slow wordpress down a touch?

    • Peter

Hi, Pete Thanks for your comments. Yes too many plugin can slow your site down a bit. Although there is a plugin for that too! As for your idea about a golf products, as I say in my post, those two products together (that I mentioned) are a great way to do it.

What’s also great about WordPress is…

      (1) WordPress is used by over 25% (1 in 4) people (2) Over 75 million Websites depend on WordPress

      (3) WordPress is used by over 59.1% of all the websites (4) 50,000 WordPress sites are added every day

      (5) 22% of new U.S. Registered Domains Run on WordPress.

Take look at my post: How to Create a Website in WordPress for more details, and you might decide that WordPress is the ideal site to use.

Thank you for again your comments 🙂

  • How To Build A Business Online

Have you taken this course and is this how you got your start in ecommerce?
It is mind boggling how big the online market for products is.
When you see companies like Walmart throwing millions at it just to try and compete with Amazon, then you have to sit up and take notice.
Do you sell your own products or promote others?
What would you recommend for newbies starting out? Their own store or product promotion.
Right now I just promote other people’s products.
Thanks for this, really well done.

    • Peter

Hey thanks for your questions. As I say in my post these two products together, are a great way for newbies promoting affiliate products, to do it.

The name of the game is focus on quality products and customer satisfaction. By promoting quality products that are first class, people will like them and will want to come back again for other purchases.

So start with one website and focus on a particular product or niche and build as many pages and posts as you can around that. Later add other links to affiliate products when you have traffic coming to your site and you will do just fine. Thank you for your comments. 🙂

Hi Peter. Great article on how to build an online business here. That billions are so mouth watering though lol. Some people say that the online business marketplace is saturated but your figures here show there are plenty of growth in future, for those that’s willing to put up done work to reap it=)

I’m interested in the jungle scout software you mentioned. If I understand it correctly, it’s meant to simplify our Amazon products search right?

    • Peter

Hello, Isaac Yes, it’s a powerful tool to help you source profitable products and services to sell on Amazon by saving you a ton of time researching what to sell. So it’s great for niche research or to find profitable products to sell online. Thank you for your comments 🙂

  • Brad

What advice would you give to people like myself that can get overwhelmed easily. The idea of making money online sounds perfect but still so far away. It seems to me like although it is possible it requires quite a bit of work. While willing to put in that work how do I stay motivated and on task without constantly looking up on the daunting big picture. Any advice you could offer would be great thank you!

    • Peter

Hi, Brad sounds like a step-by- step, easy to follow program would be exactly what you are looking for. As I have said in my post “Anyone can start an e-commerce store with this course and it can be run from the comfort of your home. Especially if you have some additional software called Jungle Scout.to help you source products that are in hot demand. This software program together with WP Online Store is an unbeatable combination especially if you are thinking of selling Amazon products”.

Thank you so much for your comments. 🙂

  • ririj

Hello, What is the difference between this and the simple Amazon store feature that is actually on Amazon? And can you visit my website and tell me if it is set up wrong? I am new to posting content and have posted links to books on all of my pages. Is this bad?

    • Peter

Hello, ririj The biggest difference is that as, almost anyone can start astandard e-commerce store. The thing about with this course is that if you add another component, called Jungle Scout. which will help you to actually source products that are in hot demand and together with WP Online Store is an unbeatable combination, especially if you are thinking of selling Amazon products.

As for your question about posting links, Nothing is bad if you are getting traffic and converting that traffic. Remember though the visitors are usually coming because they are searching for information and NOT to buy something. So if the links are relevent and add to the visitors experience and knowledge then they are probably ok.

Thanks for leaving a comment. 🙂

  • hanssenschristian

Hi Peter, very professional website. Lots of to the point information, you almost seem to anticipate what will be going on next in the reader’s mind.

Hello, David Yes good point. If you choose the wrong product or the wrong Drop shipper it could be very costly. Hence the reason I recommend combinstion of the two recommended products to help you avoid those sorts of costly errors. Thank you for your comments. 🙂

Good job; you have met the overall standard of being a good affiliate marketer. The overall graphics look appealing and neat. Pictures are relevant to the content. You have also inserted appropriate videos to promote your product. For the ads section, it is also relevant to your content, especially the wealthy affiliate banner. A clever way of putting in the Affiliate Disclosure which makes readers think that you are rather trustworthy. Generally, it is well crafted for your website. I have no other comments on this.

Hi Peter, I enjoyed watching your video on How to get started with eCommerce. I realized that I really need to make a strategy. The hardest part is the beginning, but with the quality and support and guidance it should be easier. Can I count on your help if you get stuck?

    Hi there Peter,

Timely article to say the least. Drop shipping or even having my own product made and using Amazons drop ship program (FBA) is incredibly appealing to me just now and certainly worth trying and implementing,

How in depth does the training program mentioned go and how easy is it to implement for non IT professionals?

    • Peter

Hi, Derek It’s geared toward non-techie types so it should be easy to follow for most people. The two programs together make a powerful combination. Thanks for your comments. 🙂

Interesting article, Peter. I’ve been researching on how to build an income stream from home for quite a while now but all I keep bumping into are scams.

I think I will be signing up to your training course. I could really use some guidance with this selling online deal.

    • Peter

Hello, Mark You are very welcome to signup. There is a 60 day refund policy so if it’s not what you think it should be then you can get your money back no worries. Appreciate your comments and I look forward to your future feedback. 🙂

Wow! Peter this opportunity looks right up my alley! I have been running an Etsy shop for over 6 years. I create all the product, photograph it, write the ads, market the sales, and pack and ship myself. If I could learn about the dropshipping method I could create many different stores, inspired by my top hobbies, and not have to make any more products myself! That would be amazing. I can tell you that woodworking outside on a dreary winter day is not my idea of the paradise. A dropshipping inventory ecommerce store really sounds much better! And I could travel and keep up with my stores online…. Thank you so much for putting together such a clear and motivation explanation of this process! Thank you for your program! I am super pumped!

This is an incredibly detailed article, Peter. I’ve been looking to find new ways to generate a passive income stream for myself without going through the hoops of that you would have to go through if entering into a regular business. Couple that with the fact that I’m a stay at home dad who has to watch over a two-year-old creates a pretty good motivation.

Will definitely be looking into that WordPress course. I’ve got a bit of familiarity with the CMS. Hopefully this can translate to a bit of income.

    Cheers!
